The following courses are examples of very popular inter-school projects. They give pupils of similar ability opportunities to work together on business related activities.

This Able and Talented activity includes writing for business, journalism and creative writing.

Activity  

Part 1: “Sun Snacks” : 
  Writing for business (formal writing skills) 

Part 2: “ Spinning a Yarn”
   Storytelling and writing (creative writing skills)

Part 3: “Read all about it”
    Journalism (factual writing and reporting skills)   

Location:               Host School / Classroom

Areas:                    NE / E / NW Hampshire

Number of pupils:  Max 30 in each area (Total 90 pupils)

Target Age Group: Year 5/6 Pupils should be working at English Level 5. The same children should attend all 4 sessions (2 hours) as each session builds on the previous one.

AIMS of the COURSE:

§        To raise awareness of the different types of writing

§        To put each course into context by presenting it as a work-related scenario

§        To acknowledge, develop and build on the pupils' talents to improve the quality of  their writing 

§        To develop communication skills and raise self esteem

§        To provide extension and enrichment opportunities

§        To work with other pupils of similar abilities from different schools

§        To develop teamwork skills

§        To develop presentation skills

The Building Challenge

Introduced by a member of the Construction Industry, this challenge is all about taking on a role and working with a team. Teams need to use strategic thinking, planning, memory, good communication skills and cost control.

Target Age Group: Year 6 G&T

Aims of the Event

To provide a stimulating team challenge for more able pupils to develop the following skills:

§        Communication - speaking and listening.

§        Memory and Thinking.

§        Organisational - planning and time management.

§        Team Building - using own and other people's strengths.

§        Financial management.

§         

To raise awareness of job opportunities within the construction industry and to provide information and valuable resources for pupils and teachers related to that industry.
